Workshop Description

This session is open to Cumberland County school personnel and first responders.

The Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning invites Cumberland County school/district leaders, School Safety Specialists and first responders to participate in this training intended to inform and train participants in the reunification process.

A critical and often overlooked aspect of crisis response is the accountable reunification of students with their parents/guardians resulting from a school emergency. Such emergencies may be the result of either human induced, technological, or natural causes. In response to some such situations, it may be necessary to remove the school population from the affected building or campus and to reunite students with their respective parents/guardians at a secondary site. An effective reunification plan is essential to enable school and district safety teams, public safety partners, and emergency managers to fulfill this need safely and successfully.

Successful planning and implementation require strong partnerships between school personnel, first responders, municipal officials, etc. as well as planning and training for this process well in advance. In this session, attendees will learn the steps required to plan and prepare for a reunification, how to choose appropriate reunification sites, what response personnel and resources are required, and other critical elements necessary to reunify students, staff, and parents/guardians.
