Enhancing Age-appropriate Transition Assessment with Person-centered Approaches

Enhancing Age-appropriate Transition Assessment with Person-centered Approaches

Date(s) & Time(s) July 17, 2023   ~  9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Workshop Description Presenters: Bill Freeman, State Coordinator of Secondary Transition at the New Jersey Department of Education, and Somerlee McMahon, Training and Consultation Specialist at the Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities at Rutgers University.

Person-Centered Planning is an evidence-based approach to help an individual to gather needed supports and allies to engage in a strength-based personal future planning process. Striving to deeply get to know the focus person and what is important to them, this process is very well suited to use with students with IEPs who are in the transition years as it can contribute to and support the age-appropriate transition assessment process that provides the basis for students' measurable postsecondary goals and other transition services in their IEPs. This workshop will explore age-appropriate transition assessment and how person-centered approaches can be used to enhance and enrich this required practice.
