Workshop Description The New Jersey Department of Education's Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning will be hosting the School Safety Specialist Academy at the NJ Forensic Technology Center auditorium, 1200 Negron Drive, Hamilton Township (Mercer County) on March 7, 11, 21, 28, and April 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To attend this five-day training and receive the School Safety Specialist certification, candidates must:
- Be a school administrator or a school employee with expertise in school safety and security;
- Be a district employee designated by the Chief School Administrator;
- Complete the REMS Implementing the Incident Command System for Schools online course; and
- Complete all five days of training sessions.

Topics mandated by legislation will be presented as well as other best practices and resources for school safety, security, intervention/ prevention and emergency preparedness.

In accordance with N.J.S.A.18A:17-43.3, all school districts are required to have a School Safety Specialist.
