School Safety Symposium - Northern Region - July 30

Workshop Description The New Jersey Department of Education?s Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning continues to promote safety and security in our schools. This half-day symposium is being offered at two locations.

Sessions will include information presented by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance Program. This program provides supplemental financial assistance to state, county, and local governments and certain non-profit organizations, to support response and recovery activities resulting from a federal disaster. Content will include information on the process to receive funding, as well as resources to assist schools navigate the processes necessary to receive reimbursement. A presentation will also be provided by Jeffrey Gale, Director of the Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning on practices for conducting investigative interviews in a school setting. Topics covered will include investigative steps to support the interview process, strategies to develop the interview process, structuring interview questions, and strategies to elicit truthful answers and detect efforts to deceive.

The day will start with welcome remarks at 8:30 a.m. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

There is no fee to attend, but space is limited, and registration is required.

School Safety Specialists who attend this training will receive 3.5 hours toward certification renewal.
