Workshop Description The New Jersey Department of Education's Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning will be hosting the School Safety Specialist Academy at Sparta High School, August 5 - 8, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To attend this four-day training and receive the School Safety Specialist certification, candidates must:
- Be a school administrator or a school employee with expertise in school safety and security;
- Be a district employee designated by the school district superintendent;
- Complete the FEMA Introduction to the Incident Command System, IS-100.C, online course; and
- Complete all four days of training sessions.

Topics mandated by legislation will be presented as well as other best practices and resources for school safety, security, intervention/ prevention and emergency preparedness.

In accordance with N.J.S.A.18A:17-43.3, all school districts are required to have a School Safety Specialist.
