BURLINGTON COUNTY ONLY: Establishing a Common Vision for High-quality Science Curriculum/Instruction

Burlington County Science Curriculum Kick-Off Session

Date(s) & Time(s) September 24, 2024   ~  9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Workshop Description This workshop is for teachers and administrators in Burlington County.

In science, accepted claims are supported by sound, relevant evidence and reasoning that clearly links the evidence to the claims based on known scientific concepts. Evidence is central to scientific enterprise. Similarly, in order to make a claim about the coherence of a science program with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science and New Jersey Administrative Code, one needs evidence and arguments based on current learning theory.

The Burlington County Curriculum Consortia work will take place across five sessions, a kick-off and four work sessions. The work will enable participants to make evidence-based claims for the question: Is our science program coherent with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science and New Jersey Administrative Code?

The Kick-Off session will focus on establishing a common vision for high-quality science curriculum and instruction. Attendees will include Burlington County curriculum directors, supervisors of science, and highly effective teachers of science. The purposes for the kick-off session are to a) Establish a common vision for high-quality K-12 science and b) establish measurable goals for the work of the consortia.

Lunch is on your own.

Kick-Off Session Goals:
- Establish a common vision for effective, inclusive, and equitable science education across kindergarten through grade 12.

- Analyze county-wide data and establish measurable goals for the consortia.
