Managing Traumatic Loss in the School Community

Managing traumatic loss in the school community

Date(s) & Time(s) April 29, 2024   ~  10:00 am - 11:30 am
Webinar Description The New Jersey Department of Education?s Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning, in collaboration with the Traumatic Loss Coalition, are pleased to offer a training on how schools can deal with grief and traumatic loss in the school community.

Providing "instruction on grief" makes a contribution to understanding our reactions and developing the coping skills needed to navigate the time following a loss. Members of the state's Traumatic Loss Coalition will identify reactions we see, understand our own reactions to grief, and support students to develop healthy responses in their lives. They will also give an overview of the Traumatic Loss Coalition, how they can support your school community after a traumatic event and how to contact your county coordinator. There is no reason to navigate major losses on your own, just reach out and invite us as we will never self-deploy.

There is no fee to attend this virtual presentation, however registration is required. Please register using your organization email address.

School Safety Specialists will receive hours for attending this workshop. Questions can be directed to the Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning at school.security@doe.nj.gov.
