Educational Interpreter EIPA Virtual Video Conference

Deaf Interpreters in K-12 and Administrator Perspectives on Deaf Learners

Date(s) & Time(s) April 6, 2024   ~  11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Webinar Description Deaf interpreters work in collaboration with hearing interpreters side by side to navigate the unique intricacies of language and cultural mediation by expanding their role-space and decision latitude to ensure that linguistic equity is achieved. DIs work with a wide variety of students and are often overlooked as a resource in K-12 settings. With the demands that exist in the educational setting, this presentation examines research on the roles, responsibilities, and benefits of Deaf Interpreter-Hearing Interpreter (DI-HI) teams, research as to why this occurs and some strategies for approaching such resistance will be provided.

Presenter: Rosemary Wanis, Ed.D., MSW, CDI
