Workshop Description A community of practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common interest in something they do, meet on a regular basis, and seek to improve their practice (Wenger & Traynor, 2015). The goal of the CoP for Autism (CoPA) in New Jersey is to bring diverse educators into a working relationship around a common interest in autism spectrum disorders and to share information and improve instructional practices. The CoPA will meet 4 times a year at the Learning Resource Center (Central) and host a variety of speakers who have presented on topics such as least restrictive environment, inclusion, social skills instruction, improving post-school outcomes, and addressing challenging behaviors.

The CoPA for 2023-2024 will be the 2nd year that the CoPA has been in existence. The goal of the CoPA is to continue to bring diverse educators together in a working relationship around a common interest in the development and implementation of high-quality programming for students with autism and to share information to improve instructional practices that lead to positive post-school outcomes for students with autism.

The CoPA is open to any educator in the state of New Jersey that works with students with Autism that did not participate in the 2022.2023 CoPA. For example, special education teachers, inclusion teachers, child study members, board certified behavior analysts, administrators, supervisors, and so forth are all welcome.
