Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Video Conference-South

A New Generation of Slang

Date(s) & Time(s) October 5, 2019   ~  11:00 am - 3:15 pm
Workshop Description Sabrina Smith, Ph.D., CI and CT, NIC Master and Ed:K-12, will be the presenter for this live video conference.

This workshop takes a look at slang that is used by the younger generation and addresses the issue of what does an interpreter do when they hear these phrases. Working with younger generations means understanding their language and being able to interpret it effectively. This workshop teaches skills that help educate interpreters on current slang, how to interpreter slang, and what to do when they are faced with terms with which they are unfamiliar.

Handouts will be emailed a few days prior to the workshop. If you are RID-certified and wish to obtain CEUs, please bring a check for $5, payable to BTNRH. Checks will be forwarded as a courtesy to our participants. NJDOE PD certificates will be provided after the workshop.

Coffee and food will not be supplied; however, you may bring a beverage and/or lunch for the break. In the event of inclement weather, you will be notified via email early Saturday morning.

This event will be held in the GCIT Media Center-first entrance/parking lot to the left off of Tanyard Road.
