PARCC Data: Conversations Around Year 1 Data and Preparing for Year 2 Data Conference

Workshop Description With data from year one of PARCC testing and the anticipated summer release of year 2 PARCC data, districts throughout the state are communicating with teachers, parents and others regarding the PARCC data reports. This conference will focus on evaluating school-level data and using the Evidence Statement Reports to inform the cycle of teaching and learning. Districts are encouraged to register as an instructional team to include at least one teacher and one administrator (with no more than four educators per district). Schools are also encouraged to bring their own school-level data to the highly interactive sessions.

Session Title and Descriptions

Strand One - Got Data...Now what? What do classroom strategies look like in the classroom?

Session 1 Video Aloud: Using Video in Place of Read Aloud to Teach Comprehension - Choose short and engaging videos that will get students to analyze, stop and jot with purpose, and develop conversations that spark debate on the American Revolution and take part in activities before/during/after video viewing.

Session 2 Mining PARCC Data and Resources for Classroom Strategies Using Released Items - The examination of the evidence statements and performance level descriptors bring clarity to standards level conversations. The second round of PARCC testing will bring a renewed opportunity to make sense of how to use comparative data to improve instruction using released PARCC items.

Session 3 PARCC Resources to Support the Cycle of Teaching and Learning - Engage in the resources available to support teaching and learning. Review New Jerseya??s Collaborative Online Resource Exchange, the Partnership Resource Center, the newly launched Curricular Framework as well as the Blended Online Learning Modules to foster work in professional learning communities.

Strand Two - The Power of the Evidence Statement Data

Session 4 How do we get there? Looking at Evidence Statements in K-2 -Focusing on the on the standards and evidence statements in ELA/Math and to develop formative assessment for teaching and learning. Participants will examine the standards, evidence statements and the relationships to teaching and learning.

Session 5 What Evidence Tables Can do for You! Grades 3-5 - This workshop will show you what PARCC evidence tables are, what data you can use them for, and what you can do to improve instruction using them for both Language Arts and Math in Grades 3-5 Classroom.

Session 6 Using PARCC Item Analysis to Inform Middle and High School Mathematics Instruction - Take a deep dive into the PARCC reports and how they can affect our instruction and curriculum, at a district, school and classroom level. Processes that can be used to break down all of the data and how to use those outcomes to create solid professional development and conversations for PLCa??s.

Session 7 Using PARCC Data to Guide Instruction in the Middle School and High School Classroom - Use data as the entry point into the cycle of teaching and learning to foster instruction at the standards level. How to craft the conversation to support professional learning around standards will be a focus in this session.
